FACTIONS & ROLES
FACTIONS & ROLES - Although the Crimson Corsairs present as a unified front, they are in fact comprised of three separate factions that have formed an alliance to fight back against the Empire. While the Crimson Corsairs are typically aligned in goals, each Faction has its own priorities and these will occasionally come into conflict during missions. While it is possible to easily warp between all of the Factions major cities, the Faction you select will determine where your character's primary residence is and the kind of people they will often find themselves working alongside.

FACTION PRIORITIES
Recovery of salvage and treasure
The ship-city of Flotsam is a mobile city comprised of innumerable boats lashed together. It sails the Eternal Ocean constantly, breaking apart and scattering to the winds whenever it comes under attack by the Empire. Flotsam is the most militarily powerful of the Factions, their giant fleet provides a huge standing army and they present the most significant threat to Imperial ambitions, something the Empire has recognized.
Characters who reside in Flotsam are often very oriented toward freedom. Ships in Flotsam come and go with the winds and the tides, and it's not uncommon for ship clusters to form their own smaller "suburbs" as part of the city proper. In an environment that's constantly changing where your neighbors might be totally different in a week's time, Flotsam's people are fiercely free-spirited and oppose the Empire as an oppressive regime.
Flotsam also highly values salvage and treasure, the entire city being built upon it. Flotsam's people are always encouraged to find ways to take plunder when they can, and whatever they can recover or take from the Empire serves to reinforce and build up the city as a whole. The community is loose in every sense of the word, but it is still a community with strong bonds and a shared purpose of growing in strength and riches.
CURRENT COMMANDER
Grand Admiral Hildegard
The Grand Admiral of the Flotsam fleet and leader of Flotsam's Crimson Corsairs, Admiral Hildegard is a battle-tested warrior and corsair. An elf woman of 175, she has left the front line and now serves as fleet command, allocating ships and resources daily to ensure the needs of the rebellion are met. A woman of quiet competence, she holds regular council with the various captains who call Flotsam home in order to ensure the needs of all are being met. Extremely competent and one of the deadliest shots in the fleet, Hildegard is a formidable woman who can be counted on for calm, collected competence in the midst of any storm.

FACTION PRIORITIES
Recovery of arms, munitions, books, and knowledge
The Vault is a city built in the underground of the fallen continent of Bavrecht, which now stands as a test bed for Imperial Weaponry. The people of the Vault decided to hide in the one place the Empire would never think to look - underground, and right under their noses. The Vault is a huge, labyrinthine network of caverns, caves, and structures that has become the most secure city within the Crimson Corsairs, an ironic feat considering the continent they exist on is bombed constantly every day.
Characters who reside in the Vault are often studious or knowledge-oriented. Despite the constant noise of the bombardments, the city itself is often strangely still and tranquil, with people quietly going about their days, grabbing meals when they must but otherwise devoting their lives to study and research. The Vault is constantly being built up and reinforced which has made it the safest of the cities - even were the Empire to discover and attack they would have to fight their way through innumerable defensive systems, walls, and partitions and such an attack would be tremendously costly. Thus, the Vault is the place one goes if they want to feel safe.
The Vault highly values knowledge, both old and new. They are constantly seeking out books, especially books that have been banned by Imperial censors and they share that knowledge freely. The munitions constantly dropped on the Vault are recovered and dissected so that new munitions and weapons can be developed to fight back against the Empire. Those who dwell within the Vault truly believe that knowledge is power, and they do their best to accumulate as much of that power as they can at all times.
CURRENT COMMANDER
High Scholar Nicholas
High Scholar Nicholas is the head of the Vault. An orc scholar in his 70's, Nicholas is a rare individual who has managed to live into his old age despite the hardships of life within the Crimson Corsairs. While not particularly physically fit, he is a wealth of knowledge and a frequent lecturer within the academy. He ensures that the administration of Vault resources and knowledge goes smoothly and works closely with Grand Admiral Hildegard to ensure the Corsairs have what they need when they need it, or at least the best approximation of it.

FACTION PRIORITIES
Intelligence from the Empire, social status and wealth
Elysium, as recognized by the Empire, is a pleasure city built on the fallen continent of Innistis. The city is largely self-sufficient, with huge fertile farmlands, the finest of livestock, dedicated production facilities artfully concealed so as not to ruin the aesthetic. Elysium is where Imperials come to rest and partake in whatever vices might suit their fancy, be it wine, food, sex, or murder. In truth, Elysium backs the Crimson Corsairs, providing intelligence on their Imperial Patrons which can be used to topple them.
Characters who reside in Elysium are often refined, elegant, and possessed of strong personal grounding. Elysium itself is a study in contrast, it's beautiful white marble buildings give it an austere appearance but within its halls the most grotesque of debauchery occurs regularly. Those who dwell in Elysium hold strong stomachs and wills, able to bear the ignominy of Imperial attentions with aplomb if it will gain them even a scrap of information that might be used against it. Those who dwell in Elysium often hold great personal hatred to the Empire, but have learned to conceal their emotions and exist as the souls of courtesy and customer service, even as they stare down the face of someone who might've had their entire family murdered just days before on a lark.
Elysium values intelligence and standing highly. It is well understood in the Crimson Corsairs that Elysium's cover MUST be protected at all costs, and that their status as an intelligence link is critical to the Corsair's operations. The Empire, for its part, recognizes that Elysium is a bed for potential traitors, so purges and investigations are frequent, but none in the Empire at this time is willing to wipe it out, so precious is it to its noble customers in maintaining their lavish entertainments. The core value of Elysium is protecting Elysium, and members of Elysium will willingly sacrifice their own lives and even the lives of their comrades if it means protecting their secret.
CURRENT COMMANDER
Madame Karine
The Madame of the Vale of Flowers and de-facto head of the Crimson Corsairs in Elysium, Madame Karine is a fifty-year-old human woman who was once a courtesan until she took over the Vale. While still a luminous beauty, Karine's face is marred by age and hardship. She is blunt, no-nonsense, and has absolutely no filter or qualms with talking about any hard subject under the sun. She has little time or patience for foolishness and holds high expectations and runs a tight ship - absolutely necessary when you are trying to support the Rebellion while welcoming some of the highest-class nobility into your establishments on the regular.

FACTION PRIORITIES
Global Domination
The Varschein Empire is the dominant power in Esthere, and rules the world with an iron fist. A deeply oppressive regime, the Empire values mortal life only as far as that mortal life can serve and enrich the Empire. The Empire controls every continent in Esthere, the only truly free settlement is Flotsam which evades the Empire by breaking apart whenever attacked, although they often suffer heavy losses in every such occurrence.
Ruled ostensibly by the will of the Divine, the dominant faith within the Empire, it is instead ruled primarily by the Emperor, who answers to nobody and can end countless lives on a whim. The Emperor, in turn, uses his absolute power to drain the underclasses of wealth and enrich himself and his cronies, although cronies who defy him openly often find themselves falling to the Eternal Ocean below under mysterious circumstances.
The Varschein Empire prioritizes command and control above all else. The Emperor requires every citizen to serve him and his whims absolutely, and the entire society is structured hierarchically to ensure this happens.
CURRENT COMMANDER
Emperor Claudius Varschein II
Emperor Cladius Varschein II is the power seated upon the Imperial Throne. A man of ruthless guile and ambition, he is not often seen publicly but his presence is felt everywhere. Under him, inquisitions and executions more than doubled in his quest to see dissidents eliminated and brought to heel, and the cruelty of the executions has increased, with Cladius turning said executions into local shows for the populace to be entertained as well as reminded the cost of standing against the Empire.
- The Crimson Corsairs loosely divide their members into four major roles. Members are free to select any role or roles they feel best suit them, and this determines the kinds of missions they will be given by the Corsairs. Every role will have some part to play during a mission cycle. While these roles are acknowledged ICly, they’re pretty fluid and things are left up to the individual character as to what jobs and missions they want to take on.
COMBATANT
Combatants are the fighters of the organization. When things get violent, the Combatants are called in to win the day.
SUPPLIER
Supplier refers to the people who find or produce things the Crimson Corsairs need to function. This can be anything from salvagers to foragers to farmers.
NEGOTIATOR
Negotiators are diplomats and traders who take on the role of gathering information and work within the Empire to gain advantages.
INFILTRATOR
Infiltrators are spies that find clandestine opportunities to gather information and sabotage Imperial Operations.
